Hello everyone! I'm so excited to write my very first blog. I have so many things I would like to share with you, but I will do my very best to focus on one at a time. And also I will be handling different topics each day.
I decided to go natural around February 2009, and I must say it is a great feeling seeing what my natural hair looks like after years of endless expenditure on perms. I remember standing infront of the mirror in the bathroom, and thinking, "Oh my goodness! I don't remember how my natural hair looks or feels like". It was at that moment that I decided to turn naturalist altogether ^^. But going natural, vegetarian, and trying to lose a few pounds have been a few of my greatest challenges this year, and I still am at the first stage of transition (it's hard to give up chicken^^).
Taking this major turn means changing my entire mind-set and lifestyle. I shall set aside time from school, and post tips and advice on our major topics of focus that I get from researching and also from my own experiences, and I hope they will be helpful to someone. As wonderful and self-fulfilling the decision may seem, wearing my hair is a real challenge, not to mention in the winter.
We are about three weeks into winter now, and I've been wearing my hair out all this while. I thought it is okay to wear your afro out in the winter, as long as you grease it constantly. But I found out that leaving your hair out in the cold for an extensive period of time can cause it to dry up, and this can cause your hair to break. I spray my hair everyday, and oil my scalp when I have the time, but these don't seem to be helping.
Wearing cotton hats is not good either, because it absorbs moisture. So your best bet is to wear a protective hair style, like cornrows, braids, or weaves. If you are an afro newbie like me, or want a hairstyle that promotes the most growth, braiding is the way to go.
Coconut oil, olive oil, and tea tree oil are the three oils I have managed to memorise that are very essential to promoting health to the body and hair. I have yet to try sheer butter, which has been negated by some people, so stay tuned for updates on that.
I have not decided what my next topic will be about, so I will end here. Take care, and see you tomorrow!
Yay!! this already looks interesting, goodluck with ur vegetarianism (i know its not a word.lol) and i'm joining u next month with the natural hair, so i'm going to need alot of tips from you. shetttttt
